How to find winning ads in the Meta Ad Library (2026 guide)

Short answer

Search a competitor or a keyword in the free Meta Ad Library, filter to active video ads in your country, and look for ads that have been running for weeks or appear in many copies. Those are the likely winners. Save the hook, structure and offer, then rebuild the idea for your own product instead of copying it.

The Meta Ad Library is a free, public database of every ad currently running on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and the Audience Network. It does not show spend or results, but it shows enough to tell which ads a brand keeps paying for, and an ad nobody turns off is usually an ad that works.

This guide covers how to search it, which signals separate winners from tests, how to log what you find, and how to turn a winning ad into a new ad for your product without copying anyone's footage.

What is the Meta Ad Library and what can it show you?

The Meta Ad Library lives at facebook.com/ads/library and needs no ad account. Pick a country, choose "All ads", then search by advertiser name or keyword. Each result shows the ad's creative, its copy, when it started running, which Meta platforms it runs on, and whether several versions share the same creative.

What it does not show matters just as much. Outside the EU and political ads, you will not see spend, impressions or conversions. So you are reading behavior, not results: which ads a brand keeps live, how many variations it makes, and which angles it repeats.

  • Shows: creative, copy, start date, platforms, number of versions, landing page link.
  • Does not show: spend, CPA, ROAS or click-through rate for regular commercial ads.
  • EU bonus: ads delivered in the EU carry extra transparency data, such as reach and audience breakdowns, under the Digital Services Act.

How do you search the Meta Ad Library for winning ads?

Start with the five or ten brands your customers would also consider, then widen to keyword searches for your category. A tight routine keeps this to about 20 minutes a week.

  1. Open the library, set your main country and the "All ads" category.
  2. Search a competitor by page name, or a phrase your buyers use, like "protein coffee" or "invoice app".
  3. Filter to active ads and video media so you only see what is live and portrait-friendly.
  4. Open each ad's details to check the start date and how many ads use the same creative.
  5. Save the strongest candidates to a swipe file with the link, start date and your notes.

Repeat the same searches weekly. New ads that are still live a month later are the ones worth studying. The TikTok Creative Center's Top Ads page is a useful second source for the same exercise on TikTok.

Which signals tell you an ad is actually winning?

No single signal proves an ad is profitable, but together they are a strong filter. Brands rarely keep paying for an ad that loses money, and they rarely make ten versions of an idea that flopped.

SignalWhere to see itWhat it suggests
Running 30+ days"Started running on" dateThe ad is paying for itself
Many versions"X ads use this creative"The brand is scaling or testing a proven idea
Same hook across adsComparing a brand's active adsThe angle works; they are testing around it
Several placementsPlatform iconsBroad delivery, often a scaled ad
Fresh variants of an old adNew start dates, same conceptFighting creative fatigue on a winner

Treat a brand-new ad as a test, not a winner. The signal you trust most is age: an ad still running after a month or two has survived the brand's own kill rules.

How do you turn a competitor's winning ad into your own?

Copy the idea, never the asset. Reusing someone's footage, voice or face breaks their rights and Meta's policies, and it rarely works anyway because your product and offer are different. What transfers is the structure.

Write down four things for each winner: the hook in the first three seconds, the beats (problem, demo, proof, offer), the format (talking head, split screen, before and after) and the call to action. Then rebuild that skeleton around your product, your customers' words and your offer. Our guide to the first 3 seconds of a video ad covers what to keep from a hook.

Addy can do this step for you: paste a link to a winning ad into Remix and it maps the ad's structure, then writes and renders a new version for your product with a different person and script. You approve the concept before anything renders.

How should you log and use what you find?

A swipe file only helps if you can sort it. Keep one row per ad with the link, brand, start date, format, hook text, offer and a one-line note on why you think it works. After a few weeks, patterns show up: the hooks your category repeats, the formats that last, and the offers competitors lead with.

Use those patterns to plan tests, not to clone a competitor. A good weekly rhythm is to pick two or three winning structures, make several hook variations of each, and test them against your current best ad. Our guide on how many ad creatives you need explains how many variations to run per test, and how to test ad creatives on Meta covers the setup.

Frequently asked questions

+Is the Meta Ad Library free?

Yes. Anyone can search it at facebook.com/ads/library without an ad account or login.

+Can you see how much a competitor spends on an ad?

Not for regular commercial ads. Spend and impressions are only shown for political and issue ads, and ads delivered in the EU carry extra reach data. For everything else, run time and number of versions are your best proxies.

+How long should an ad run before you call it a winner?

A useful rule of thumb is 30 days or more while still active. Brands usually turn off losing ads within days, so an ad that has lasted a month or two has likely earned its budget.

+Is it legal to copy a competitor's ad?

Copying their footage, music, voice or face is not. Reusing a general structure, such as a hook style or a problem-demo-offer sequence, is normal practice. Rebuild the idea with your own product, script and creators.
